«Turkmen Carpet — Masterpiece of Oguz»
The carpet making art of the Turkmenpeople dates back to ancient times and is closely connected with the history,
cultural heritage, and national traditions of the people. According to ancient
written sources, before the formation of the Turkmen tribes as an ethnic group, they were widely engaged in
weaving various carpet products, such as carpets, felt, kilims, and palas.
Despite the antiquity of carpet traditions, carpet making is still considered a
great art. A festive ceremony named «Turkmen Carpet — Masterpiece of Oguz», dedicated to the
National Day of the Turkmen Carpet was held at the State Library of the State
Cultural Center of Turkmenistan. The festive ceremony was recorded by the
“Miras” TV channel. Among the participants, who spoke at the event, were Guljeren Guljayeva,
Senior Researcher of the Research Department of the Museum of Fine Arts of
Turkmenistan, Maysa Charyyeva, Department Director of the State Library
of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan, also Annagul Shiriyeva and
Gulayim Saparmedova. During the festive ceremony, the State Library organized
an extensive book exhibition named “Carpet — the Heart of the Turkmen”.
